OPCS follows an evidence-based “Housing First” approach, which means that access to housing is immediate and unrestricted.
We continue to work with those we’ve helped house (and with many who found housing through other nonprofits) because only when someone has a permanent home can the real work begin—addressing the underlying issues that led to their homelessness.
Janet Scheckel has bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, PTSD, asthma, COPD, fibromyalgia, and migraines. She’s unable to work, has been homeless several times, and never felt like she could succeed in life. Now, however, she has a home now, receives rent and utility assistance, and works with an OPCS case manager to make progress on the myriad challenges in her life.
“OPCS stepped up and really helped me in a lot of ways. I wouldn’t be here right now without their help. I am so very grateful. They are a blessing to a lot of people.”
For Janet, homelessness is over.
