My name is Karla Avalos, I was born in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico but have lived in Tucson all of my life. I graduated from the University of Arizona in 2008 earning a degree in Political Science with a minor in History. I am a first generation college graduate.
I have been serving on the OPCS Board of Directors for 1 ½ years. I was drawn to the work of OPCS during my time at the Mayor’s Office and working on homelessness, reentry and veterans initiatives. All of my interactions with OPCS staff, from the CEO to front line staff, were so inspiring. Everyone was so passionate and committed to the work they were doing. As Vice Chair, I hope to offer my support, time and encouragement.
After completing an internship at the office of Congressman Raul Grijalva I decided on a career in public service. It was here that I realized that to be a public servant is not for the faint of heart but can and should be a noble and respected career.
I currently work for Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild as his Senior Advisor. I have been working for Mayor Rothschild for over 6 years and have learned and experienced so much. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve.
I am the mother of 3 amazing children that inspire me to be my best every day! I enjoy all thing fitness and love being at the gym.
